Description
- TORFIX 550 Tablet is an antibiotic primarily used to treat infectious traveller's diarrhoea caused by E. coli, hepatic encephalopathy (decreased brain function due to liver disease), and irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea (IBS-D) in adults and children above 12 years.
- It contains Rifaximin, which works within the bowel to prevent the spread of infections caused by loss of beneficial gut bacteria, thereby helping relieve abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
- It is not effective against diarrhoea accompanied by fever or blood in the stool and should not be used for diarrhoea due to pathogens other than Escherichia coli.
- Common side effects include headache, peripheral oedema (leg swelling), nausea, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal fluid accumulation (ascites), and increased liver enzymes.
- TORFIX 550 should be taken with or without food, exactly as advised by your physician.
- The tablet should be stored tightly closed, in a cool and dry place, out of reach of children.
